History The owners of Mesa Organics have come a long way since Colorado legalized the sale of retail marijuana. Jim and Pam Parco have been together since they were 15 years old. After spending 24 years in the military, they moved back to Pueblo where their family has been on the same land for 100 years, and there, they built their facility. Along with the store, they also have a cultivation on-site as well as a full-scale CO2 supercritical extraction operation operating as “Purplebee’s.” Pueblo County was the first in the state (along with Denver) to legalize the retail production, use and sale of cannabis in January 2014. However, during the summer of 2016, an anti-cannabis group known as “CAVE People” (Citizens Against Virtually Everything) petitioned the community to take Pueblo County back to Prohibition. Mesa Organics took the lead to orchestrate the campaign to educate the community on the benefits that legalized, retail marijuana has had on Pueblo. It has created over 1,300 above-minimum wage jobs and generates more than $3.5 million in annual local tax revenue. When the votes were in after the election, their advocacy group known as “Growing Pueblo’s Future” defeated the Prohibitionists 58-42. Before opening Mesa Organics, neither Jim or Pam Parco had ever seen a cannabis plant; it wasn’t until Jim’s uncle had a double-knee replacement and contracted Shingles in the same week during the summer of 2014. He applied to be a medical marijuana caregiver, and that same day went into a dispensary to purchase an ounce of cannabis to treat the pain that prescription medicine couldn’t. With the purchased ounce of cannabis, he made a homemade salve to penetrate through his uncle’s pain and was astounded when his uncle no longer needed to take prescription medicine to treat his pain. In April 2015, Mesa Organics was granted a local permit to open in Pueblo, and by January 2016 they had acquired the mandatory state licenses to grow, manufacture, and dispense medical and recreational cannabis to customers throughout Pueblo. As a college professor, Jim also strives to educate and inform the public on the medicinal benefits of marijuana. Menu Mesa Organics also manufactures Purplebee’s CO2 extracts on-site. They carry a full line of sativa, indica, hybrid and high-CBD oils, waxes, saps and vape cartridges. By manufacturing on-site, their pure CO2 extracts are among the least expensive in the industry, and at the same time, among the highest quality in terms of potency and terpenes.
